Coal phase-out 2030: Minister Schulze must end blockade attitude

Federal Economics Minister Robert Habeck had voiced ideas of bringing forward the coal phase-out to 2030 in the eastern German coalfields as well. State Economics Minister Schulze rejects this, according to media reports. Dennis Helmich, state chairman of BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN Saxony-Anhalt, explains:

“Whoever wants an exit ‘at the earliest’ in 2038, like Economics Minister Schulze, must say which villages he still wants to dredge away from 2035, because by then coal-fired power generation should also be ended here in Saxony-Anhalt according to the plan so far. Minister Schulze should end his blockade mentality and finally work on constructive solutions in the interests of the economy and climate protection.

The climate crisis has also become noticeable here in Saxony-Anhalt in the last record summers. We can still do something about it! We Greens are therefore committed to a coal phase-out by 2030, a powerful expansion of renewables and investments in hydrogen.”
