Greens welcome better intercity train service on Saale Valley line

Madeleine Linke, state chairwoman of Alliance 90/The Greens Saxony-Anhalt, welcomes the announced improvement of rail connections for the Burgenland County. According to recently published information, the Saale Valley line will be more frequented from December 2023 and a two-hourly intercity connection between Leipzig and Nuremberg will be introduced.

“The decision for better rail connections in Burgenlandkreis is an important step in the right direction. It is a transport policy that embraces not only the big cities but also, with Weißenfels and Naumburg, medium-sized towns and rural regions,” Linke said.

The improved rail connection is also an example of how an effective transport policy can have an impact beyond the borders of the federal states. “We need a sustainable transport turnaround that relies on greater use of local public transport. The new intercity connection will make the Saale Valley route more attractive for many people and make rail the preferred mode of transport,” Linke emphasizes.

Alliance 90/The Greens of Saxony-Anhalt are committed to an environmentally friendly transport policy and call for further investment in local public transport. “We are convinced that a sustainable turnaround in transportation is of great importance for everyone in Saxony-Anhalt and beyond,” Linke concludes.
